Laura Jean Beauvais, M.P.H, M.A., LPC is a licensed professional counselor. For more than 30 years, she has worked in the field of adoption. Based on her experience, she knows firsthand the issues children face when they have had prenatal drug and alcohol exposure, early neglect and abuse, multiple moves, or institutional care before being placed with their adoptive parents.
Children from difficult circumstances often have food-related issues, and Laura Jean can evaluate and support the family as they support the child.
Your child may have had a difficult start in infancy or through the destructive patterns of a previous spouse. For such children, you may find that the typical parenting techniques do not work with your child who has suffered from complex developmental trauma.
As a Theraplay Foundational level practitioner Laura Jean uses Theraplay, which an evidence-based modality for children who have experienced trauma and have attachment-related issues, to work with the whole family in bringing support and healing. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional as well as a Trust-Based Relational Intervention practitioner.
The courts of South Carolina and Virginia have deemed her an expert witness in attachment and bonding based on her extensive experience in evaluating children’s attachment to their parents/caregivers. Due to the high volume of clients, Laura Jean is no longer seeing children who may be part of a custody disagreement. She will treat children whose parents are separated or divorced but she will not be part of the proceedings.
Laura Jean counsels women of faith who have experienced trauma due to emotional or spiritual abuse. Laura Jean Certified is also a Narcissistic Abuse Clinician.
Laura Jean is certified in Advanced and Enhanced Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and offers this technique to clients seeking to heal from the wounds of trauma. ART can also be used to address depression, anxiety, as well as life stressors.
As a certified telemental health professional, Laura Jean can provide counseling both in person and by videoconferencing.
